Job Description:
Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt
Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement
program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements
in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application
within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount
(up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are
determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program
office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Responsibilities As Supervisor of Cardiopulmonary Inpatient
Service, the incumbent provides leadership for Cardiopulmonary
personnel and has full responsibility for supervising inpatient
respiratory therapists, which may include ECG technicians. Assists
in planning, organizing, staffing, and decision making. Assures
implementation of all policies and procedures. Updates policy and
procedure manuals as needed. Responsible for preparing requests for
filling vacancies in personnel necessary to meet staffing
requirements through proper channels. Responsible for filling out
proper paperwork, obtaining quotes, demonstrating equipment to add
or update essential equipment. Participates in the training of
cardiopulmonary staff, medical students, and other medical center
personnel and patients. Provides care based on physical,
psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria,
appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned
area (i.e. adult and geriatric patient populations). Knowledge of
human growth and development; Ability to assess and interpret age
specific data and provide age specific care; Communicate with
skills necessary to interpret age specific Rocky Mountain Network

Updated 5/2022 response to treatment; Ability to involve
family/significant others in decision making related to plan of
care. The knowledge, abilities, and skills needed to provide such
care will be refined through continuing education, training, and
experience. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to
complete the duties of the position including that necessary to
provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Such
knowledge and skills are identified in the Competence Assessment
Checklist of position and include knowledge and skills in: -
Communication and interpersonal relations including the ability to
appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external
customers. - Maintenance of confidentiality of patients/employee
information, electronic and printed. - The Medical Center
performance improvement program. - How to work and function in the
Medical Center in a safe manner including infection control and the
correct operation of equipment. Participates in any committee as
deem necessary by the Supervisor Cardiopulmonary Section and/or
Associate Chief of Staff - Acute Care and Specialty Service.
Ensures all Joint Commission Standards and CAP Standards are
followed which include Fire Safety, Infection Control, Blood Borne
Pathogens, Chemical Hazards, CPR, education documentation, patient
confidentiality, employee orientation, and employee competency.
Assists the staff with clinical duties when workloads are high
and/or staffing is low. This includes inpatient respiratory care,
outpatient clinics, pulmonary function, and cardiology services.

Information below for details. Qualifications Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when
it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with
VA Policy. Education. Individuals must have successfully completed
a respiratory care program accredited by the CoARC or its successor
Licensure. Persons appointed or reassigned to RRT positions in the
GS-0601 series must possess and maintain for the duration of
employment a full, current and unrestricted license from a state to
practice as an RRT. Credential. Persons appointed or reassigned to
RRT positions in the GS-0601 series must possess and maintain for
the duration of employment a valid, current, unrestricted
credential of RRT. Grade Determinations: Supervisory Registered
Respiratory Therapist, GS-13.Experience, Licensure and Credential.
Candidates must: Have one year of creditable experience equivalent
to the GS-12 grade level demonstrating the clinical competencies
described at that level. Hold an active license and RRT credential.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the
requirements above, candidates must demonstrate all the following
KSAs: Ability to supervise employees. Ability to assist in
establishing a completely integrated program. Skill in recommending
improvements to operations, including new and emerging procedures
based on evaluation of data. Ability to forecast resource needs and
to manage fiscal matters. Skill in problem solving including
conflict resolution. Ability to communicate effectively and
professionally with employees at varying levels of background.
Knowledge of complex and non-standard examinations, treatments,

Work is primarily performed in patient care areas, in-patient and
