This opportunity is based in the Grand Junctionarea, but will serve the Northwestern part of the state to include: Mesa, Garfield, RioBlanco, Routt, Eagle and Lake counties. This is a field position requiring the incumbentto spend approximately 75% of each day traveling to and meeting withbusinesses and individuals. The incumbent is provided with a state vehicle, laptopcomputer, cell phone and additional resources to perform their duties. A typical daybegins with two hours of account research and preparation, followed by six hours of fieldwork. Due to the large geographical area, there is the potential for overnight stays. Theexpectation is that the incumbent will make a minimum of eight contacts per day.The incumbent will review taxpayer accounts to verify accuracy of information; schedule daily activities to make the most effective use of time in the field; contact taxpayers or their representatives to negotiate and obtain an agreement to pay delinquent taxes; assist taxpayers in the preparation and filing of tax forms; research records to trace and locate delinquent taxpayers. If tax delinquencies are not voluntarily resolved, the incumbent will achieve compliance by serving distraint warrants, seizing inventories, and securing personal property which is sold at public auction to satisfy liabilities. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining logs and related documents; and performing other duties as assigned.The incumbent must be able to work independently without daily person-to-person supervision, have the ability to learn the law, be honest, and have integrity. The incumbent must be self-motivated and create their work day with the tools at hand.The incumbent must be able to remain professional and respectful even during stressful or confrontational situations. The incumbent is directly responsible for enforcing tax compliance with a wide variety of business types and individuals.Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsTHE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THIS POSITION WILL CLOSE ON MARCH 16, 2020, OR WHEN THE FIRST 50 APPLICATIONS ARE RECEIVED, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Criminal Justice or a related field of study. AND one year of professional experience in Accounting, Business, Collections or Investigations.SubstitutionsWork experience in Accounting, Business, Collections, Investigations or Law Enforcement may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the Bachelor's degree.Necessary Special RequirementsApplicants MUST possess a current valid Colorado driver license. Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment evaluation of their State of Colorado income tax accounts and a background investigation. Preferred Qualifications and CompetenciesBS/BA in Business Administration or Accounting and professional experience in Collections or Law Enforcement. Excellent written and oral communications skills, and experience with personal computers and computer software.DOR REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES Competencies required for all DOR positions include good communications skills (both oral and written), interpersonal skills, the ability to multi-task, the ability to work with confidential information, the ability to work in high-stress environments, and the demonstrated ability to assist customers in an effective, efficient, and elegant manner.The following are conditions of employment with the Colorado Department of Revenue:
    • All employees must be current with their Income Tax filings and payments with the State of Colorado. This includes successfully passing a pre-employment evaluation of your tax records/accounts.
    • Applicants must agree to provide reference information and sign a waiver of liability in order to be considered for DOR jobs.
    • All DOR positions require successful completion of a background investigation prior to appointment. Background checks may include criminal, financial, traffic, civil, education, and/or experience checks or any other checks related to the assignment. Movement within the department to a different position may be cause for requiring additional background checks. Refusal to participate in the background check process will disqualify a person from employment with DOR. In addition, false, incomplete or inaccurate information, including failure to disclose a material fact during this process, may be grounds for disqualification from employment and/or your name being removed from the eligible list.
    • Department of Revenue employees are prohibited from "...exercising any regulatory control over any organization at which the employee was formerly employed or associated for a period of three years from the employee's last employment with such organization..." Prior employment, as it may be covered by this policy, will be considered in the hiring process.
    • Effective January 1, 2005, newly hired employees should be aware that employment with a state government employer offering public pension plans may cause a potential reduction of future Social Security benefits. The Department of Revenue is such an employer.
